A PLEA TO 50 VETERINARIANS
I remember, few years ago when I wanted to start my first
Veterinary Clinic. I had many concerns, fears, joy and sadness at the same time.
What was I going into? Will it succeed or will it fail? So many questions with
very few answers...
While still musing over my mixed feelings, a senior colleague
(Dr. Micheal Eleagwu) offered to help out.
He gave me drugs he had in excess, 5 pieces each and asked me
to return the capital after sales.
We are all not self-made.
Most of us
are products of other people's kindness.
Today, I feel very obliged to use the privileges I have to
help a young colleague taking the same steps I took 9 years ago.
What inspired me about her story was the fact that she has
paid a price very few Vets, if any, will dare to pay.
She started as an office assistant in Imperial Animal clinic, Kaduna, where she was in charge of sales and the cleanliness of the outlet for 3 years. During this process, she got inspired to studied Veterinary medicine.
Admitted into Usman Danfodio University, she committed her time in learning the act and art of the practice.
Upon graduation, she was humble enough to intern with another Vet (Dr. Iyock Shindong, CEO Bridges Animal Care, Kaduna - 07037729998) for a whole
year to learn and grow even more.
Her passion and hardworking attitude pushed her forward to be under the mentorship of Dr. Shehu Shamsudeen (08065826270), who encouraged her to take a diploma in Business Entrepreneurship from the Kaduna Business School.
Haven gone through all these, few weeks ago, she started her own veterinary clinic.
What you see here is pure bravery. The tale of knowing what you
want and paying the price to get it
You might look at the picture and see empty shelves, one carton of dog food and a few dog chains but I
see differently. I see the bright future of the Veterinary profession staring
right at us only if we can recognize and support it.
People preach employment for younger Vets and I smile.
I smile because subconsciously, we are still under the influence
of our colonial masters who taught us how to follow other people's heart and not ours.
I will rather preach deployment. An opportunity to muzzle the
little courage you have on your inside to create values strong enough to
attract cash. The opportunity to be an entrepreneur!
That's the future I see in "Roses Veterinary".
She hasn’t despised her little days of humble beginning.
She didn't ask me to do this nor did I ask for her
permission. I only said I wanted to support her dream just as I have been
supported on several occasions.
So here's the deal
I need your help!
I think if we rally round this young promising Vet with the
little we can afford, we will in one way or the other be supporting our
collective future.
The future isn't something we expect; the future is something
we build. And I want us to collectively build this one
The goal here is to get 50 Vets who can support her with
#10,000 (cash) each or #10,000 worth of free dog inventories
I have made my commitment known to her already but I figured
there could be 49 more Vets out there who will share in my sentiments.
If you join me, I'd be most glad.
Some might say I didn't get support, why should I support
someone else?
Well, you're are partly right, but realize that it is like saying why should I be rich, when my parents were poor?
Dear colleagues, the future I see is a future where all Vets
work together to achieve a greater goal regardless of our pasts.
It's a new dawn for the veterinary profession in Nigeria and
I am glad to be among those leading the process.
